Our founder, Edward (Ted) McPhee Jr. is nothing less than an icon in the electrical contracting industry, and is well known for his entrepreneurial spirit that has always been the guiding light in his business practice.  Ted McPhee started his working career in the U.S. Army after high school.  He served eighteen months overseas in Germany before returning to the US to complete his studies with a Bachelor of Science degree in general engineering.  Ted immediately went to work at the Dupont de Nemours Company as a project engineer while at the same time continuing his academic studies at both the University of Richmond, majoring in Business Administration, and at the University of Virginia where he took advanced studies in electrical engineering.  Upon completion of his studies, Ted went to begin what many thought would be a lifetime professional career working as a plant engineer for United Aircraft and then moved on to become vice president of the A.F. Peaslee Corporation.  Ted McPhee had other plans in mind…

     In 1974, Ted followed his entrepreneurial dream by starting his own business in the electrical contracting industry.  McPhee Limited was born that year as a small business in Farmington Connecticut and our founder began to pursue a lifetime of hard work and high ethical practice that today still stands in the highest regard within the electrical industry.   From a small contracting firm, Ted guided his company and his loyal employees to new heights and success over the next twenty five years and firmly established McPhee Electric, Ltd.

     Ted McPhee always strived to offer the best he could for his family and his employees, and participated in the local administration of NECA/IBEW health, pension and annuity funds to advance this belief.  He also served on the NECA Connecticut chapter’s Board of Directors for almost 30 years.  Additionally, he has served three terms as NECA Chapter Governor, three terms as Chapter President and as a member of his Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee.  Ted firmly believes in the importance of getting involved with appropriate local and national related industry organizations.

     In 1999 Ted transitioned the leadership of the company to his sons Michael and Marcus who continue to honor their father’s legacy of entrepreneurial spirit.  McPhee Electric has become one of the largest quality electrical contractors in the northeastern United States and is now expanding into other areas of the country.  The company has enjoyed tremendous growth and success in the industry and Ted is still as popular as ever when he stops in to visit.  Our employees always enjoy the energy he brings with him.

     Ted and his wife Carole are now enjoying retirement and their grandchildren.  They are very active in various community organizations and enjoy golfing, fishing, reading, sports and visiting the beaches of Rhode Island and South Florida.
